The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in many deaths in a short period of time. Families, other relatives and many caregivers are grieving. This grief has been made special by the climate of uncertainty and the containment measures that had to be put in place to slow the progression of the virus.
The region of Montreal, the epicenter of this epidemic in Quebec and Canada, has been particularly affected. In response to the mourning of the Montreal population, the Direction régionale de santé publique du CISSS du Centre-Sud-de-l'Île-de-Montréal, with the collaboration of a team of researchers and practitioners from CRÉGES and a social worker, proposes collective mourning rituals. These rituals will be a privileged way to recognize losses, support the bereaved and give meaning to these tragic deaths.
