For the first time in Canada: a total hip prosthesis performed in one day

Une nouvelle du CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal

Last August 4th, the medical teams of l'Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (CIUSSS de l'Est-de-l'Ile-de-Montréal) have performed their first total hip prosthesis in day surgery. This complex procedure was achieved by the team under Dr Pascal-André Vendittoli, MD, MSc, FRCS, Professor of Surgery at Université de Montréal.

"Until recently, such a procedure required that the patients be hospitalized for a period of five to ten days", explains Dr Vendittoli, adding: "It has been shown that late mobilization and prolonged hospital stay may cause medical complications."
