The Minister of Health and Social Services, Gaétan Barrette, announced today that he is changing the list of services covered under the Regulation respecting the application of the Health Insurance Act to include ultrasounds performed in medical clinics. This service will be offered at no cost by a radiolist, in clinics and in hospitals.

Optical tomography of the ocular globe and confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy of the optic nerve will also be covered under the Health Insurance Act, even when delivered in private clinics, as long as these services are rendered as part of intravitreal injection of an antiangiogenic drug for treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, retinopathy of prematurity, pathologic myopia, neovascular glaucoma or diabetic neovasular retinopathy.
