The specialized approach to senior care, known in French as l’Approche adaptée à la personne âgée (AAPA) aims to reorient our way of thinking, of treating, of caring for and supporting older adults requiring hospitalisation.
Having to go to the hospital can be a very stressful experience for an older adult. In nearly 30% of cases, being hospitalized can even lead to a decline in function (walking or dressing among others) in older adults aged 75 and over.
Our ways of doing things must therefore be addressed and improved in order to reflect the distinctive features of older adults. AAPA offers a clear framework to achieve this.
