The health of young Montrealers at high risk of dropping out of school

For this year’s edition of Hooked on School DaysMontréal’s regional public health department is releasing a detailed report on the health of young Montrealers who are at high risk of dropping out of school.

In 2016–2017 in Montréal :

5% of grade 6 students are at high risk of dropping out. This is equal to 700 children, or 1 in 20 students.

15% of high school students are at high risk of dropping out. This is equal to 14,100 children, or 1 in 7 students.

Promoting young people’s health is key to their staying in school and educational success.

 

  • A healthy child is less at risk of dropping out.

  • A child who is well equipped to deal with difficult situations is less at risk of dropping out.

  • A child who is provided with a non-violent school environment is less at risk of dropping out.

  • A child with healthy lifestyle habits is less at risk of dropping out.
